MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN CASE STUDY
Spec Ad: OUD Satin Mood
The Challenge & Opportunity
Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s OUD Satin Mood is described as “a royal interpretation of oud.” The fragrance is rich, velvety, and opulent, yet restrained.
This spec ad explores how MFK could embrace motion, light, and form while staying rooted in its elegant visual code.
The goal: to translate the experience of oud (warm, luxurious, and enveloping) into a motion-driven sensory moment, without relying on spectacle or excess.
My Creative Process
1. Brand Research & Analysis
A close study of MFK’s packaging, site layout, and campaign materials confirmed a consistent visual identity: minimal, elegant, with a precise use of gold, deep blues, and refined typography. The key was to stay reverent to that identity, not reinterpret it through flashy effects.
2. Creative Concept Development
The guiding words were: Dramatic. Simple. Elegant.
This became a study in restraint. Every motion, material, and light placement was chosen to evoke royalty without cliché. The gold wasn’t meant to shine, it was meant to glow.
3. Moodboarding & Shot Planning
I curated references from high-end fashion editorials, black-on-gold packaging studies, and soft silk fabric motion to guide the tone. Slow camera moves, soft ambient light, and subtle reflections formed the spine of the storyboard.
4. 3D Execution
Inside Blender, I rebuilt the bottle from scratch, including:
Manual logo engraving using displacement and curve-based modeling
Accurate material representation for the deep blue glass and real gold foil
Careful beveling and lighting for elegance, not spectacle
Motion was driven by stillness. Every animation curve was shaped to move like silk; slow, graceful, deliberate.
5. Finalization & Polish
Rendered in Cycles, then color-graded to emphasize warm–cool contrast and gold luminance, the final result captures the essence of OUD Satin Mood:
A fragrance that doesn’t demand attention, but earns it.
